I have been working on the HMRC Mobile App as the lead Product, Service and Interaction Designer. Working closely with the Product Owner and User Researchers I have been responsible for helping set the vision for the app and making native mobile a core part of HMRC’s digital strategy.
During this time we have transformed it from a collection of individual screens into a cohesive user experience and fully accessible native app on both Android and iOS. We’ve built a fully open source mobile app component library based on GDS standards and implemented Open Banking in the app enabling customers to pay bills quicker and easier, making HMRC one of the first tax authorities in the world to utilise this technology.
The app is often used as an example of mobile app best practice in Government.
I have written some posts about the work we have done and some of the challenges we have faced. Links are at the end of the page. For more detail on the app’s assessment or case studies please get in touch.
